NEW DELHI: A "Maha Rally" in North Campus is being organized on August 26, 2015 against choice based credit system (CBCS). Bolstered by the referendum where majority of the students from 18 of Delhi University colleges and Jamia Millia Islamia voted against CBCS, the Students' Federation of India is planning phase manner protest programme till August 26.
In the referendum organized by SFI in 18 colleges on August 12 and in Jamia Millia Islamia -- 91.89% out of 12,769 students in DU and 93.97% out of 1,813 students in Jamia voted against CBCS.
From Monday SFI is going to start organizing department level assemblies on CBCS.
In a statement, SFI has alleged that the new guidelines on CBCS give complete authority to the VC to decide the syllabi of courses and the college principals are given authority to decide the Generic Electives offered to students.
"This will effectively mean loss of choice. The duration of each teaching period for first year students will be now one hour, while that of second and thirds year students will continue to be of 55 minutes each. This will mean that all timetables will have to be made again and there will be utter chaos. There are indications that the end-semester practical exams for science courses will be scrapped, which will lead to further dilution."
SFI is planning to contact students and form department level assemblies of students against CBCS across the colleges of DU. These assemblies will intervene in the academic problems that arise at the level of the class. This will be followed by a students' rally to North Campus on August 26.
