'Baby' Beard out for more

Roibeard

Ger Lyons described Roibeard as "a big baby" after his debut success at Down Royal so it will be interesting to see how much he has come forward when he reappears at Roscommon.

He holds no fancy entries and Lyons is obviously keen to not over-face him too early in his career.

A son of Big Bad Bob, a stallion Lyons has supported as much as anyone, he faces another to have won on his debut in Paul Deegan's Henshaw.

He was subsequently a little outclassed in Group Three company but the fact connections let him even take his chance in that grade suggest he could give Roibeard a big race.

With David Wachman's Last Waltz and the David Marnane-trained Mr Michael already having shown useful form too, it suggests the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Auction Race might take a bit of winning.

That race opens the card and is followed by the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon Handicap, where Aidan O'Brien's Bishan Bedi carries top weight.

Lyons appears to have another good chance with Greek Canyon, a respectable second on his seasonal reappearance at Naas.

O'Brien's Cocoon appears to have solid claims in the Pyramid Boomakers Fillies' Handicap, ridden by the trainer's daughter, Ana.

It is a mixed card, with jumpers also getting a go.

Davy Russell gets the mount on Patrick Prendergast's King Christophe in the Michael And Teresa Keogh Memorial 3-Y-O Maiden Hurdle, while with Andrew McNamara now retired Shark Hanlon has booked Rachel Blackmore for Armistice Day.

The closing Athleague Maiden Hurdle may finally see Gordon Elliott's Ultimate Horseman break his duck.

He has been second on his last five outings but his resolution has not looked in question, he has just been unfortunate to bump into one too good on each occasion.
