the ‘portable research lab’ was completed by brighton-based studio baines & fricker. produced on commission for design consultancy fieldwork, the object is a fully-operational lab workspace that’s lightweight, and comes in a custom-built flight case. each element of the unit was specifically included for a specific purpose, including the case it ships in. once moved to its location — via integrated wheels — the crate is opened and the ‘lab’ lifted out. once out, the shipping container is turned on its side vertically, and the ‘lab’ placed on top — which is coincidentally also optimum working height. the ‘lab’s’ front panel pulls forward and down to create a fully-functional work surface.
