Shakya bags Surya Nepal Monthly Medal

KATHMANDU, August 15

Purna Shakya won the fifth edition title of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club on Saturday.

Played under stroke play full handicap format, Shakya — the 16-handicap amateur golfer — scored four-under 68 to claim the nett category trophy. Shakya also had an ace on the par-3 13th hole and he received a special prize for the hole-in-one feat.

Jigmay Dongstetsang finished second on count back after he was tied on one-under 71 with SSP Rajendra Shrestha and Ang Dorjee Sherpa. SSP Shrestha bagged the second runner-up trophy, also on count back with Sherpa.

Prithivi Malla won the gross section award with the score of six-over 78, while Shreeyog Basnyat claimed the junior category title with two-over 74 nett. In all, 42 players participated in the fifth edition of the tournament, sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. Captain of Gokarna Golf Club Joseph Nathan handed over the prizes to the winners.

A total of 10 monthly medal rounds will be played till December with top 30 in nett, top 10 in gross and top five in junior categories making it to the Club Championship finals to be played over two rounds in January and February. After the fifth edition, Sanjay Poudel is at the top of the nett section table with 126 points, while Jabbor Kayumov is second with 116. Jie Tang and SSP Rajendra Shrestha are joint third at 112 points, whereas Brian Fawcett is fifth at 110.

In gross section, SSP Rajendra Shrestha and Prithvi Malla share the lead with 200 points, while Tendi Sherpa is third at 190. Brian Fawcett and Vijay Einhaus are fourth with 100 points each.

Likewise, Sam Doublard leads the junior category standing with 240 points, while Shreeyog Basnyat is second with 200.

Aditi Ghimire is third at 140 points, whereas Arnav Shah and Zenish Mahaseth are joint fourth with 60 points each.
