Huddersfield Town 1-1 Blackburn Rovers

Nathan Delfouneso
Delfouneso joined Blackburn from Blackpool earlier in the summer

Nathan Delfouneso's second-half goal helped Blackburn Rovers take a point against Huddersfield Town at the John Smith's Stadium.

Nakhi Wells put Town ahead when he ran on to Ishmael Miller's rebounded shot and coolly fired past David Raya.

Rovers drew level when Bangaly-Fode Koita headed Ben Marshall's cross and the on-rushing Delfouneso fired home.

Huddersfield could have restored their lead when Jacob Butterfield struck from range but Raya kept the scores level.

Mark Hudson almost gave Huddersfield the lead early on from Sean Scannell's corner but Blackburn scrambled the ball off the line.

The hosts' early pressure paid off when Scannell provided again, this time for Miller, whose shot was well saved by Raya but went straight into the path of Wells to coolly finish.

The visitors almost found a leveller when Danny Guthrie crossed for Jordan Rhodes but Terriers keeper Joe Murphy - chosen in place of Alex Smithies after a formal offer for Smithies was received from Championship rivals QPR - was on hand to save.

Rovers lost Rhodes soon after the restart following a tackle from Dean Whitehead, but they restored parity when substitute Delfouneso was on hand to volley home from close range.

In an end-to-end second half, the Terriers came closest to finding a winner when Butterfield's powerful strike was parried by Raya.

Huddersfield boss Chris Powell: "I got the response I wanted from the start. We were on the front foot and wanted the crowd with us but again we came up against a keeper who has made some good saves.

"We had a good first period but Blackburn came into it in the second half and there was a lack of concentration for the goal.

"Both teams had lost their first two games and both teams will see this as a first point gained. This was important for our mindset.

"We are playing well in spells and we just have to do the best we can to get the three points from each game."

Blackburn manager Gary Bowyer on Nathan Delfouneso: "He has certainly settled in well. He's had a hand in a goal and that's two he's scored. The impact from the subs was terrific."

On a challenge by Dean Whitehead on Jordan Rhodes: "It was a poor challenge, if I'm being honest.

"We are going to assess him in the morning. Hopefully, touch wood, there's no long-term damage.

"We have a great medical team and hopefully he will be okay for (the home match against Cardiff on) Tuesday."
