Lukaku a hit at Southampton

Everton's Romelu Lukaku acknowledges supporters after the Barclays Premier League match at Southampton

Romelu Lukaku showed his compassionate side by going into the stands and apologising to a fan hit with his stray shot - a moment manager Roberto Martinez joked the Everton forward may need to repeat every game after his match-winning display at Southampton.

The Toffees made light work of a tough-looking trip to St Mary's, coming away with a first Premier League win of the campaign in comprehensive fashion.

Ross Barkley wrapped up a surprise 3-0 win late on, but it was Lukaku's first-half strikes that did the damage against shell-shocked Southampton.

It was quite a display from the £28million striker, who made headlines before the match when he went into the stands to check on a Southampton fan he hit with a wayward effort during the warm-up.

Lukaku ran up the steps to check the woman was okay, handing over a shirt by ways of apology - a moment Martinez found about when told by Press Association Sport in the post-match press conference.

"No, I wasn't aware," the Everton boss. "If that was the case, maybe he will have to hit a woman every game!

"I'll make sure that happens in the finishing routine."
