Stars get into the spirit
Sanjjanaa, Priyanka Chopra mark Independence Day with #SaluteSelfie
Perhaps the most popular creation of social media, selfies have taken on a patriotic shade in the run-up to Independence Day. Movie stars, cricketers, singers and common folk alike — like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjjanaa, Priyanka Upendra, Naga Chaitanya, Virendra Sehwag, Sania Mirza and Benny Dayal — have all uploaded pictures of them saluting, along with the hashtag #SaluteSelfie, in support of the Indian armed forces.
Priyanka Chopra and Rakul Preet are both army kids, so the salute had a special meaning for them.
While Priyanka expressed “Respect. Pride. Gratitude... for the Indian Armed Forces (sic)” through her selfie, Rakul said that she is proud to be an army kid. SRK saluted the armed forces who “selflessly risk their lives 2 protect our beloved country & our families (sic)”, while Sania thanked them for “everything that they do and sacrifice for us so that we are safe”.
Sandalwood stars like Sanjjanaa, Priyanka Upendra and Malavika Avinash also flashed a salute to the national heroes. While Priyanka and Malavika chose to keep it simple with a “Jai Hind” and “Vande Mataram” respectively, Sanjjanaa asked her followers to “show respect to our brave soldiers.” So, have you uploaded yours yet?
