Independence Day was celebrated at the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre (PRC) in Mohali Friday.
Presiding over the function, Punjab PWD Minister, Janmeja Singh Sekhon, expressed the state government’s preparedness for the welfare of former soldiers.
Sekhon also announced a grant of Rs 20 lakh for the centre and gave away uniforms to the inmates.
Earlier, a mannequin wearing one of these uniforms was unveiled by Lt General K J Singh, GOC-in-C, Western Command. During his address, the GOC-in-C said the PRC would soon be rechristened as Paraplegic Empowerment Centre.
On the occasion, a street play was staged by the students of Army Institute of Law (AIL), Mohali, which highlighted the problems in post-Independence India, such as corruption, communal conflagration, misogynism, etc.
