The deputy director of education wrote to the department of the principal secretary of school education on Wednesday and asked for permission to restart the sixth round of Class XI admissions which has been stopped until further notice.

Fifteen days have passed since classes in junior colleges have begun in the city. However, at least 5,000 students in the city are yet to begin classes as they are hoping to get a college of their choice and have applied for a change of college in the sixth round of Centralized Admission Process admissions.

“Hundreds of students and their parents visit our office every day and demand the change of college. Students who for some reason stayed out of the online admission process also visit us. The number has reached 5,022 till Wednesday evening and is rising every day.

We need some resolution of this issue soon. The court has given permission to go ahead with the sixth round of admissions. We need permission and directions to conduct the round,” said Ramchandra Jadhav, deputy director of education, Pune.

A case over the Class XI standard admission process is currently going on in the high court. The court has directed the education officials to ensure that the entire process is online and no college-level admissions are granted.

Festive offer

The officials are awaiting further instructions on how to conduct the sixth round of FYJC admissions, earlier scheduled to be ‘table admissions’, but later called off after the hearing last week. ‘Table admission’ or counseling round involves calling students wishing to change their college according to merit, showing them a list of the vacant seats and asking them to choose. This continues till the last student.

On Thursday, principal secretary Nand Kumar visited the SCERT campus in Pune on the occasion of a training session for education officers. This training is being held across the state. However, Kumar refused to comment on how the sixth admission round would take place and said that he would first see the written order of the high court which was yet to be officially uploaded. “However, I can assure that all admissions will be done through the online process only and if any college attempts otherwise, criminal offence will be registered against them,” he said.
