City all set for I-Day celebrations

Massive security arrangements will be in place for the 69th Independence Day celebrations at Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Grounds on Saturday.

The BBMP and the City police, who worked together for the last two weeks, have finalised foolproof security. About 15,000 persons are expected to witness the event, said BBMP Commissioner and Chairman of I-Day Celebrations Committee G Kumar Naik.

As many as 52 contingents, including National Cadet Corps, Home Guards, police, Bharat Scouts and Guides, and Seva Dal would receive guard of honour from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, while teams from different schools comprising 2,500 students will showcase cultural programmes, he added.

City police commissioner N S Megharik said a team of 1,500 policemen including Home Guards will be pressed into service. The department has set up 25 door-frame metal detectors, over 100 hand-held metal detectors to screen the visitors, besides the installation of 45 CCTV cameras.

Security will be beefed up at all vital installations in the City and other public places, he said.  Participants are barred from carrying the following materials: cigarettes and matches, mobile phones, umbrellas, pamphlets, black kerchiefs, coloured chemical liquids, liquor and drugs, sharp objects, eatables, video and still cameras, water bottles, flags and crackers, he added.

Traffic arrangements
The traffic police will make the following arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of Independence Day celebrations at Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Grounds:

All invitees with yellow car passes are requested to proceed on Cubbon Road and enter gate-1 facing northern side of the Manekshaw Parade Grounds and park their vehicles on the western side of the Parade Grounds. The white car passholders and the secretaries to government, military officers, police officers, and others gate-2, from Cubbon Road and park their vehicles on the western side of parking lot, inside the Parade Grounds.

Mediapersons and outdoor broadcasting vans can enter the Parade Grounds through gate-3 and park their vehicles on the eastern side of the Parade Grounds. The pink passholders can enter through gate-3 and park their vehicles on the north-eastern side of the Parade Grounds. The green passholders are requested to park their vehicles in parking lot on Kamaraja Road and Main Guard Cross Road. They will have to walk into the Parade Ground through gate 4 and 5.

Vehicles carrying participants for the parade and cultural events will have to drop them near gate-1 and park their vehicles on northern side of the MG Road, from Anil Kumble Circle to Metro Station. All government vehicles of PWD, BBMP and other departments shall enter the Parade Grounds from gate-1 on Cubbon Road and park their vehicles behind the Fort Wall (Southern side).

All two-wheelers should park their vehicles on the eastern side of the Kamaraja Road and walk through Gate-4 and 5 on Kamaraja Road. People who do not have car pass can park their vehicles on the Kamaraja Road parking area and enter Parade Grounds through gate-4 and 5 on Kamaraja Road.

Public can park their two-wheelers and four-wheelers near Safina Plaza, BMTC Shopping Complex 1st floor at Shivajinagar, Chota Maidan (Shivajinagar Corporation Ground) and at Kanteerava Stadium and enter the Parade Grounds through gate-4 and 5 on the Kamaraja Road.

Arrangements have been made for the BMTC buses carrying participants to park on borthern side of the MG Road from Anil Kumble Circle to Metro Station.

Diversions
Traffic will be diverted between from 8.30 am 10.30 am from BRV Junction to Kamaraj Road Junction, (both directions) on Cubbon Road.

The vehicles coming from Medinova towards Manipal Centre should move on Infantry Road towards Safina Plaza and take left turn and go towards Main Guard Road to Alies Circle to Dispensary Road to Kamaraja Road and Dickenson Road Junction - take a tight turn - KR Road - KR Road Junction - take a left turn and Cubbon Road, onwards to Manipal Centre.

Vehicles coming from Manipal Junction towards BRV Junction on Cubbon Road will take left turn at KR Road Junction towards Cauvery Art & Crafts Circle Junction - take a right turn - MG Road - Anil Kumble Circle and proceed ahead.

Vehicle coming from Anil Kumble Circle towards Cubbon Road will go straight on the Central Street Junction - take a right turn - Infantry Road - Safina Plaza - take a left turn - Main Guard Road - Allies Circle - Dispensary Road - Kamaraja Road and Dickenson Road Junction - take a right turn - KR Road Junction - take a left turn - and Cubbon Road, onwards to Manipal Centre Junction.

Vehicles coming from Coffee Board moving towards BRV should proceed towards Safina Plaza on Infantry Road take a left turn at Main Guard Road - Allies Circle take a right turn - Dispensary Road - Kamaraja Road and Dickenson Road Junction - right turn - KR Road Junction  - left turn - and Cubbon Road onwards to Manipal Centre Junction.

Vehicles coming from Cauvery Arts & Craft Circle on MG Road going towards Cubbon Road and KR Road Junction should go straight on MG Road towards Anil Kumble Junction and further ahead.
