Michael Kors Holdings Ltd. has named Daisuke Yamazaki president of Japan.
Yamazaki succeeds Toshi Tashiro, who retired. He will report to Stéphane Lafay, who is president of Asia. Yamazaki’s appointment was effective Aug. 10, and he will work alongside Tashiro, who will stay on through the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition.
Yamazaki was most recently chief executive officer of Roberto Cavalli Japan. Before that he was ceo of the Alexander McQueen division at Gucci Japan Ltd. He also previously was at Giorgio Armani Japan for 15 years.
“There are great opportunities for the Michael Kors brand in Japan and I look forward to building upon the success achieved by Mr. Tashiro and his team to achieve the next stage of growth,” Yamazaki said.
John D. Idol, chairman and chief executive officer, said, “Daisuke’s background and expertise make him an ideal match for Michael Kors.” Idol said his deep knowledge of the Japanese fashion market and expertise in managing international fashion brands will be a “tremendous resource” for the company as it build the Michael Kors brand in the region.
Idol also noted the contributions of Tashiro in building the Kors brand over the past five years.
