An early morning vehicle stop in Edmonton prompted a response by the police bomb unit to deal with a live explosive device.

Just after 1:00 a.m. Thursday morning, around 180 Street and Stony Plain Road, a police unit spotted a Chevrolet Malibu with two broken windows.

Police determined the vehicle was suspicious and pulled it over.

During the search of the vehicle, police found weapons, ammunition, a homemade firearm and a homemade IED (improvised explosive device).

The EPS Bomb Unit was called to the scene and successfully destroyed the IED.
