US-based power equipment manufacturer SkyWolf Wind Turbine has unveiled Solar Hybrid Diffused Augmented Wind Turbine technology with the capacity to generate both wind and solar energy.
Integrating these two types of energy generation in one turbine is a world-first, claims the company.
Static pressure behind the rotor blades has been reduced in the turbine, which has boosted its efficiency and electric energy output.
Developed over a 12-year period, the equipment uses SkyWolf’s patented Diffused Augmented Wind Turbine (DAWT) technology, and can even generate increased amounts of energy at wind speeds as low as 3mph.
Following a Beta installation, DAWT had been able to produce an average of around 600KwH to 800KwH of renewable power a month from an average wind speed of 16mph – 18mph, SkyWolf said.

In addition to rotor blades, the turbine model features solar panels that enable it to capture energy from sun rays.
SkyWolf Wind Turbine president and CEO Gerald Brock said: "After two installs and 12 years of design and development and four patents, we have finalised our Solar Hybrid DAWT product to a point that these units are capable of producing more electrical power than conventional wind turbines at wind speeds as low as 3mph, all within a lower height of only 28ft, and smaller swept blade area footprint of only 11ft diameter."
SkyWolf wind turbine business development VP Paul Morrell said: "We are finally ready to commercially launch this product into the marketplace and we believe this product offers an outstanding alternative to the wind and solar energy industry.
"The smaller physical size and large electrical energy output makes this an exceptional product application to the sustainable wind farm micro grids, to municipalities, government institutions, airports, colleges and universities, as well as the private home owner and small business owner."
