When someone shows different faces, in public and at home, which of them is true? Are all of them? Are any? In Nice Is Not What We Do (tales of death and family), writer-performer Kathleen Denny takes the audience behind the scenes of her father's funeral, through their close and combative relationship, and to her own eulogy. She plays all twenty characters, and they speak their own minds, in turn dark, funny, often surprising. As part of the 2015 San Francisco Fringe Denny will present four performances of Nice Is Not What We Do (tales of death and family) September 13th through September 20th at the Exit Theater in San Francisco. This wry tale is for anyone who has lost someone, or who grew up in a family.

Writer and Performer Kathleen Denny won a Winnipeg Free Press verdict of "FOUR STARS." "Funny, a wee bit poignant and entirely honest." when she brought Nice Is Not What We Do (tales of death and family) to the 2015 Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival. By the time she discovered solo performance at The Marsh in San Francisco, her family and her work as a union machinist and aircraft mechanic had already inspired a series of commentaries on National Public Radio. Denny developed her tales of death and family through Marsh workshops and with the Monday Night Marsh series, as well as at other Bay area venues. With the help of Director Mark Kenward, she presented a workshop performance at The 2014 Rogue Festival in Fresno (where she never sold out but received "Rogue First-timer Who Kept Having Fun") and at the 2014 Boulder International Fringe. This will be her first appearance at the San Francisco Fringe.
