Paul Benson: Luton Town fringe players impressing

Luton's fringe players showed what they were capable of in their League Cup win over Championship newcomers Bristol City, says striker Paul Benson.

Boss John Still made eight changes from the team that drew 1-1 at Accrington.

"I don't think the first 11 will be the same week in, week out," said Benson.

"Tuesday backed that up for him (Still) that the players on the fringes are good enough to play when called upon. I think he's got a nice problem when he's picking an 11."

Benson scored Town's second goal in the 3-1 victory over the Robins at Kenilworth Road, sandwiched between two goals from Jack Marriott.

And Benson says the 20-year-old has impressed since joining on a free transfer after leaving Ipswich this summer.

"He's been very good since he's come through the door in pre-season," Benson told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"He's always willing to take on advice, listen and work hard in training. As long as you've got those basics you've got a good chance - he's certainly giving the manager a headache about starting him."
