GUANGZHOU, China -- China's Sichuan Hai DiLao Catering will open its first restaurant in Japan this autumn in Tokyo's Ikebukuro district.
Founded by President Zhang Yong 20 years ago, when he was in his early 20s, the company started life as a single street stall with just four tables in the countryside of Sichuan Province. It now employs some 20,000 workers at 119 Hai Di Lao Hot Pot restaurants in 31 cities across China. The company also operates restaurants in Singapore, Seoul and Los Angeles in the U.S., and has plans to open more outlets overseas.
