Designs for the bindaas bride
For the bride who is bold, carefree and follows no rules when it comes to styling, Shantanu and Nikhil’s latest collection could be the ideal choice.
Haute choice
Subtle shades, subdued embroidery and structured silhouettes were highlights of the collection titled The Mahal (inspired by the architecture of Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur), presented by the duo at the India Bridal Fashion Week.
Voluminous gowns, velvet and satin drapes with intricate embroidery for women featured in the collection. It also introduced the top jacket for men, which the designers said would be the trend to look forward to this season. The line was designed keeping in mind the choices of contemporary brides. "The bridal market in India has changed by leaps and bounds, now the woman is making her own decisions while she chooses her trousseau. She is not bound by trends or social norms. Those days are gone when she would dress up as per others’ choices. She is now leading the trend when it comes to styling herself. The Indian bride will be the most contemporary bride in the world in the years to come and the change has already started," asserted Nikhil.
Minimalism is in
Brides necessarily going in for bright and blingy outfits for their wedding functions is passe. The designers said that brides in even Tier II cities like Ahmedabad, Pune and Indore are choosing to wear gowns to one of the wedding functions. "Indian weddings are like a carnival with many celebrations, and while brides may still choose something very traditional for the wedding day, they are opting for something like a sari-gown for a cocktail night. I feel that denotes a big change in cities like Pune and Ahmedabad. Brides are choosing
designs in muted tones, light fabrics and something with subdued or minimalistic work so that they don’t feel any burden of the outfit. That is where the trends are changing," said Shantanu.
Interesting add-ons
Accessories and interesting headgear donned by the models were the talking point of the show. "We started a new line of accessories as part of our brand and the idea is to provide the bride everything under one roof. Just like our outfits, they are bold yet delicate. There are handcuffs, headgears and necklaces to match the outfits," said Shantanu.
