That, or Salwar-Kurta on the other end. The trend were bipolar. But recently, desi choices and techniques have become more appealing and vogue worthy. The fabrics and rusty designs are worn and flaunted with chic approach. Desi fashion isn’t only about churidaars, suits and saris anymore.
The innovative youngsters and fashion fraternity has blurred the line of division that existed in between the attire of west and native wear.
It’s very common to see girls sporting a jodhpuri against bright tank tops. Light, airy and extremely comfortable, they’re a college favourite in summers. So is a selection of Indian chunnis, in Rajasthani leheriya or Bengali Kantha work. Worn around like a scarf, they add the required bohemian funk to the whole attire. It is a piece that can be paired with regular skinny denims or a maxi dress. Versatility is their strong forte. Intrinsically Indian accessories are indispensable in a wardrobe. A customary oxidised silver jhumki goes a long way. “I am used to wearing Indian earring with everything. I can’t go without a jhumki when I am wearing Indian clothes.
To honestly admit the truth, even when I’m wearing a jeans or shorts, I put on a pair of danglers” says Arundhati Tewari, a student. A sequenced and embroidered jhola is an equally spotted piece. And no matter how much a girl loves her Steve Maddens and Jimmy Choos, her collection isn’t devoid of a standard Kolhapuri and a couple of naagras to go around.
It is thus, evidently obvious how the distinct Indian style is manifesting itself into a pop culture, more unique and personal to our
natively adjusted taste.
