A-League side Perth Glory sign ex-Feyenoord striker Guyon Fernandez

A-League side Perth Glory have signed former Feyenoord striker Guyon Fernandez for their 2015-16 campaign, subject to the successful completion of a medical examination.

The 29-year-old, who played last season for Dutch second tier side NAC Breda, scored seven goals for 28 appearances for 14-time Eredivisie champions Feyenoord between 2011 and 2014.

The Dutchman also played for Eredivisie side S.B.V. Excelsior between 2008 and 2011, scoring 28 goals in 67 appearances. In 2013-14, he had a loan stint with PEC Zwolle, where he was briefly a teammate of former Glory youth player and current Australia international Trent Sainsbury.

Fernandez scored 10 goals in 24 appearances for Zwolle, including twice in their 5-1 demolition of Dutch heavyweights Ajax in the KNVB Cup Final.

Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe said he was delighted with the acquisition of Fernandez.

"I'm sure he will come in and inject some real quality into our final third -- that's why we've signed him," Lowe told the club's official website.

"I'm looking forward to seeing him link up with Diego Castro. It's exciting times for everyone at the Club as we build towards what'll hopefully be a great season."

Perth Glory chief executive Peter Filopoulos added: "We want to bring players who will get the fans on their feet and Guyon will certainly do that.

"He's hungry for goals and for success. So I have no doubt that he will put a lot of smiles on the faces of Glory fans this season."

Despite finishing with 50 points in the 2014-15 A-League season -- the same as second placed Sydney FC -- Perth Glory were disqualified from the finals due to breaches of the A-League's salary cap.
