'I'm gonna grab the bull by the horns and make it to the Olympics' - Shane Lowry
With qualification for every major tournament virtually assured by his victory in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, Shane Lowry has prioritised making the Ireland team for the Olympics and the European Ryder Cup team.
The Offaly man's triumph at Firestone has propelled himself into the World's Top 20 (19th).
A flawless final-round 66 saw him hold off the challenge of double Masters champion Bubba Watson, with former US Open winners Justin Rose and Jim Furyk to win by two shots.
That earned him a two-year exemption on the American tour and eligibility for the lucrative end-of-season FedEx Cup play-offs so there is no wonder he heads into this week's US PGA Championship brimming with confidence.
The result allows Lowry to map his schedule for the next 12 months and his focus is on the Olympics at Rio and the Ryder Cup at Hazeltine.
"I can sit down at the end of this year and plan my schedule for the whole of next year and know exactly what I'm going to do," he told The Last Word on Today FM.
"A lot of the events we play, the Top 50 in the world get into it so you are waiting to see if you are going to get into an event before you can plan your schedule.
"Top 20 in the world has a great ring to it and hopefully I can keep going and cement my place in it and maybe go a bit higher.
"A big thing for me is the Olympics. I wanna play at the Olympics next year. That is a big step towards it yesterday. I really wanna play the Ryder Cup as well.
"I'm in a great position to grab the bull by the horns and make both those teams. Over the next 12 months, they're the big goals for me."
