Pranitha and Shriya Saran sizzle together

SIIMA celebrates the best of South films
Pranitha and Shriya Saran sizzle together
Red carpet shenanigans; high octane performances; filmi bonhomie; awards and accolades — the fourth edition of Micromax SIIMA 2015, a filmi extravaganza that brings together the best talent from Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam film industries on a single platform, saw all this and more.
The first evening of the two-day affair held at Dubai’s World Trade Centre was dedicated to Telugu and Kannada cinema.
Popular Tollywood comedian Ali, who played host for the evening along with actress Sreemukhi, ensured that the audience were in splits throughout with his brand of slapstick humour. Adding a dose of glam to the awards ceremony were the dancing queens, Pranitha Subhash, Pooja Hegde, Shriya Saran and Adah Sharma. While Shriya’s sexy belly dance moves left the audience asking for more, Adah worked that yoga body of hers and wowed everybody with her on-stage acrobatics.
The evening filled with fun and gags took a sombre turn, as SIIMA decided to honour the memory of Movie Mogul Dr D Ramanaidu, and paid tribute to him with a moving short film on his life and work.
Day 2 kicked off to an even more exciting start, as Malayalam and Tamil cinema lovers from across UAE thronged the venue in hordes to get a dekko of their stars. And the biggies from both industries didn’t disappoint either. Whether it was Mohanlal, who was in his element through the evening, or Dhanush, who won not just multiple awards, but also lots of hearts — star power was at an all-time high. Funny man Shiva, who co-hosted the show along with Suchitra, added to the charm of the night with his gags, pranks and wisecracks.
Nikki Galrani, Rima Kallingal, Shruti Haasan and Taapsee took the entertainment quotient to another level with their high-octane jigs. But it was ‘Rockstar’ Devi Sri Prasad who stole the show with a medley of his dhamakedar numbers. He even got Shriya on stage to shimmy with him to his latest hit track, Charu Sheela.
Malaika Arora Khan, Sohail Khan, Aditi Rao Hydari and Sonu Sood were the special guests from Bollywood, who came to cheer for their southern counterparts.
While the best actors and directors from Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam walked away with top awards, veterans — actress KPAC Lalitha and director P Bharathiraja — were honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards.
