The Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) is organising a three-day Harappa International Conference from August 15-17, said a press release issued on Monday.

The conference will focus on the themes of environment, archaeology, conservation and legacy.

Around 35 national and international archaeologists, involved in excavations of the ancient site for several decades, have been invited. It will also be attended by experts and individuals interested in the subject.

The conference will comprise keynote talks, scientific research papers, poster sessions and specialised workshops.

The delegates of the conference will have a day trip to the city. They will also visit the Comsats Sahiwal Campus for inauguration of the Montgomery Museum, established as an expression of commitment. A department of Heritage Studies for Research, Exploration and Teaching is also being set up at the campus, for which international experts have already been hired. The initiative is a practical step for providing a platform to the civil society for protecting national heritage.

Having a standing agreement with Government of Punjab’s Department of Archaeology, the CIIT has offered to become partners with the government for care and management of heritage sites of Harappa and Rohtas Fort. The CIIT on its part is helping the department to bring Harappa on UNESCO World Heritage List.
