Maruti Suzuki S-Cross top 5 USPs: From price to fuel efficiency

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs 8.34 lakh last week and we look at the crossover’s 5 unique selling propositions (USPs) that are likely to have the rivals scrambling. Check them out:

1. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross: Price
The DDiS 200 price ranges from Rs 8.34 lakh to Rs 10.75 lakh. The DDiS 320 ranges from Rs 11.99 lakh to Rs 13.74 lakh. Clearly, this Maruti not only comes with a premium tag but also premium prices. And it will be sold at premium showrooms, too—the Nexa. While the S-Cross scores high on premiumness and packaging, most buyers are likely to find prices too steep.

2. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross: Engine
It is the first Maruti vehicle that is being offered with only diesel engine options—the Fiat-sourced DDiS 200 and DDiS 320. The 1248cc DDiS 200 generates a peak power of 88.5 bhp and a torque of 200Nm@1750rpm. It gets a turbocharger that leads to good acceleration. The 1598cc DDiS 320 is the biggest diesel engine offered by Maruti Suzuki. It generates a power of 118 bhp and a massive torque of 320 Nm@1750rpm. It gets a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT), which gives optimal forced induction by controlling the flow of exhaust gases in accordance with the engine speed. It is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

3. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross: Multijet
The Maruti S-Cross is debuting Fiat’s 1.6L engine before anyone else, even Fiat, and it comes with two engine options – 1.3-litre multijet & 1.6-litre multijet. For the unitiated, this means there is no automatic gearbox.

4. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross: TCSS (Twin Clutch AT)
The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross may get Suzuki’s TCSS (Twin Clutch AT) automatic transmission, which it has already trotted out in other markets – it is expected to debut in due course in India. Reportedly, this feature is a worthy one.

5. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross: Fuel efficiency
Maruti Suzuki S-Cross offers best-in-class fuel-efficiency. Currently, it is the most fuel efficient in with 23.65 km/litre. In this land of volatile fuel prices, this will come as a big relief to all prospective buyers.
