The LBD often falls into now hackneyed Audrey Hepburn territory, so we love top model Sarah Morrissey's modern take on it here. If toned shoulders are your best area, then a racer-back neckline is the perfect way to show them off, as demonstrated by Sarah, above.

If the racer-back neckline comes with a not-so-fitted silhouette on the lower half, as seen here, it balances out the body-con nature of the style. There's not a lot for which we feel thankful to Kim Kardashian, but she has championed these cage-style strappy high heels, which make a welcome relief from the platform stripper shoe.

Stylemma

Dear Stylemma,

I would like an ankle boot that is dressy, but with a heel that is comfortable enough to wear all day, so nothing too high. Ideally black, and leather, please. Suede looks dirty too easily.

Zara has an absolutely beautiful pair of leather ankle boots in black, €79.95. They fall just above the ankle, the toe is between a point and a square, and they zip up the back, which always makes for a neater silhouette. The stacked heel means they should be fine for all-day wear. Topshop's Bardot boots have a slightly lower heel; they are basically a riding boot in an ankle-boot style, and they have a chunky two-inch heel, €68.
