KAMPALA.

Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) defended the NSSF-KAVC International women’s crown yesterday after they defeated Ndejje Elites 3-1 at Lugogo.

“We prepared better than the Ugandan teams and we minimized on our mistakes as they made many in crucial moments,” said RRA coach, Christophe Mudahinyuka.

Ndejje, the local league champions in 2013, utilised their service reception, court cover and block to take the first set 25-23.

Margaret Namyalo, Christine Alupo, Belinda Jepkirui and libero Amina Namwanje combined so well for Ndejje in the set as RRA’s main attacker, Charlotte Nzayisenga, alboured through the session with a sprained ankle. Ndejje gave home fans early hope but couldnt hold their nerves in the second set as RRA snatched it 25-20 to go level.

The third set was also evenly contested but the visitors came out top, winning 25-23.

Thereafter, Ndejje looked deflated and literally didn’t show up in the fourth set as the Rwandans swept it 25-11 to bag the $1,000 cash prize. Ndejje settled for $500 from tournament sponsors NSSSF.

“My senior players failed to lead by example and that cost us the match. However, it was good exposure for the young players,” said Ndejje coach, Johnson Kawenyera.

Last year’s losing finalists, Vision Volleyball Camp, defeated Nkumba 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 25-12, 21-25, 15-4) to take third place and $300.
