Heavy rain causes traffic snarls, waterlogging

Since the monsoon began, the municipal corporations have claimed that drains have been desilted in the city. The civic bodies have blamed the PWD for incidents of waterlogging. However, with every bout of rainfall, the capital witnesses traffic snarls.

Traffic DCP (Operations) Sharad Aggarwal said, “There were more than 25 incidents of waterlogging across the city on Sunday morning. Areas like Dhaula Kuan, Zakhira flyover, Delhi-Gurgaon route, Seemapuri and all trans-Yamuna areas saw waterlogging and consequent traffic snarls for hours.”

Meanwhile, the MeT department said this was the highest rainfall recorded in the month of August. Highest rainfall this season was recorded at
93.8 mm on July 11.

The maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 29.6 degree Celsius, four levels below normal for this time of the season, and 25 degree Celsius, respectively. The weather department also predicted rain till August 12, with possibilities of light showers on August 13 and 14. The maximum and minimum forecast for Monday is 31 and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively, with humidity levels at 98-82 per cent.
