Diarrhoea outbreak yet to come under control in Saptari

RAJBIRAJ: The Musahar village of Maleth-6 of Saptari district which was gripped by diarrhoea for the past two weeks has not yet come under control.

More than two dozen people of the village have been suffering from the problems of vomiting and diarrhoea among others.

“I returned home after receiving treatment of diarrhoea for three days,” Chandeshwor Sada, a local shared. “Now other members of the family have fallen sick,” he added.

Though the water-borne disease has not claimed anyone in the village, most of the people have been suffering from the same problems.

Whereas most of the marginalised people of the Musahar village have been facing difficulties due to the disease for the past 15 days, Nemani Sada, another local bemoaned that none of the concerned authorities have given proper attention to wipe out the disease from the village.

“I was rushed to the zonal hospital in the district headquarters for treatment. Later, I was referred to a hospital in Biratnagar and returned home after administrating 68 bottles of saline water,” he informed.

He said that the people of the community could not afford much money for treatment and for medicines.

The victims demanded the health workers be in the village and provide treatment and medicines.

According to Sudhir Jha, in-charge of the Maleth Sub-Helath Post, some are receiving treatment at the Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmath Zonal Hosptial, five kilometres from the district headquarters and some in the village.

He claimed that food poisoning might be the reason behind the illness not diarrhea.

Ramu Yadav, a local social worker informed that the symptoms of the disease have also been seen in some of the people of neighbouring villages.
