S Sreesanth might have expressed his wish of playing for India in the 2019 World Cup, but if the BCCI's mood is anything to go by, it looks like a dream that shall remain unfulfilled.

The Board is clear that even though the Patiala Court in the Capital cleared him of criminal charges, the disciplinary action taken by the Board back in 2013 shall remain.

Speaking to Mail Today, a senior BCCI official said that the ban was implemented because the Board's disciplinary committee found him and the likes of Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandila guilty of fixing and those weren't criminal offences. Also read: What next for Sreesanth: Comeback or long wait

"The anti-corruption unit of the BCCI had reported matters against these three and then the disciplinary committee felt that they deserved to be banned for bringing the game to disrepute. Now the case at the court was in regards to their connection with underworld dons and the fact that there wasn't enough charges to prove that they were criminal. I don't understand why people are confusing it. Criminal and disciplinary issues are two completely different things. It is important that those criticising the BCCI should realise where we are coming from. It is not like the BCCI wishes to spoil careers," the official said.

Sreesanth on his part is confident of making a comeback to the Indian team. "I will wait for the BCCI's decision as I know there are people there who have a heart in the BCCI. If not today, tomorrow, I know the ban will be lifted. I have waited all this while and I know I will through performance make it to the Indian team for the 2019 World Cup," he said.

Sreesanth also got the support of Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy who felt that being in a democracy Sreesanth deserved better treatment from the BCCI.

"I feel there should be no injustice because the court has already cleared his name in the spot fixing case and in this scenario the board should also lift his ban," he said.

But sadly, Chandy too is making the same mistake. The court didn't delve in the fixing judgment of the BCCI and it was strictly regarding the criminal charges levied against the players by the Delhi Police.
