BCCI may have shut down the zonal academies in Mohali, Mumbai and Chennai, but they are looking to rehabilitate the coaches at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The Board has invited applications for full-time coaches at NCA and it's likely that the seven who were in charge of the three centres will get selected -provided they are interested.
BCCI to rehabilitate zonal coaches at NCA
The coaches in reckoning are D Vasu, M Venkatramana (Chennai), Lalchand Rajput, Karsan Ghavri, Sameer Dighe (Mumbai), Monish Bali and Yoginder Puri (Mohali). BCCI did not renew their contracts that expired in March this year. But apart from Ghavri and Dighe, the other five coaches were given temporary assignments between April-July. Dighe couldn't take part due to personal commitments while Ghavri was away from the country.
"We have received a circular from BCCI. The Board is inviting applications and has also requested us to suggest some names. We have informed the coaches to apply for the job. It's good that they are going to get a second chance," a TNCA source told TOI on Wednesday. The coaches will be given three-year contracts but they will have to be in Bengaluru doing the duties.
Both Venkatramana and Vasu, in addition to their experience at the zonal academies, have worked at the SRMC on the rehabilitation programme of bowlers with suspect action. They have the experience and it will be good for the NCA as well as the coaches, the source added.
