Farmers Learn More From Agri Show In Tavua

The West Agriculture Show began yesterday in Garvey Park in Tavua.

Principal Agriculture Officer, Vinesh Kumar, said the main aim of taking the show to Tavua was to showcase new technologies and products to the Tavua people.

He said the three-day event this year would be one of the most memorable one for the people.

They will witness displays by various government ministries, institutions, NGO’s and the private sector, special demonstrations like animal restraining, milking, live bee on man, oratory contests, pet shows and the show will end with a float display.

Mr Kumar said the Ministry of Agriculture staff will also provide services that are usually provided through the agriculture offices.

“There is also a farmer’s village where the farmers can bring their produce and sell them,” he said.

“This show is all about bringing everyone together and creating a network where we share our experiences, knowledge and respect each other’s contribution.”

Mr Kumar is urging the people of Tavua and nearby areas to come and witness the various activities taking place at the ground.

Meanwhile, a 59 year old farmer from Tavua, Jalesi Vatoga, said he learnt a lot from the Show yesterday.

He learnt the techniques of growing vegetables like Chinese cabbage in bamboo, capsicum in pot plant and ways of planting yam to get a bigger harvest.
