A man from Somalia today was handed a one-year sentence after he pleaded guilty to stealing a vehicle.

Mr Abdulkadir, 28, was charged with stealing a Toyota Hilux, attempting another theft and driving a vehicle without insurance or licence. He was also accused of driving negligently and being drunk in public. The man carried out the acts while on probation for other accusations.

The accused was arraigned in court after early this morning, police officers noted a Toyota Hilux being driven negligently in Mdina Road, Zebbug. The pick-up van was seen going up a one-way street in the wrong direction and ended up crashing into a wall.

While checking for details, the police noted that the vehicle was not his. The vehicle was stolen from Luqa.

Following admission, Magistrate Francesco Depasquele handed the man a one-year prison sentence, and ordered the prison director to help the man with his possible drinking problem.
