A youth was killed and two others were injured, including a BSF jawan, when Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire by resorting to firing and mortar shelling on border out posts and hamlets along the IB in Jammu district today.
A day after Pakistani troops targeted forward Indian positions along the Line of Control in Jammu region, Rangers resorted to unprovoked small arms fire and mortar shelling at BSF border out posts (BOPs) along the international border in Kanachak and Pargwal areas.
The latest ceasefire violation by Pakistan came after BSF foiled an infiltration bid by terrorists from across the international border in Kanachak sector during the wee hours of Tuesday. Pointing out that the BSF troops were already maintaining high alert in the area following specific inputs about presence of terrorists on Pakistan side opposite Kanachak sector, sources said that two terrorists were spotted moving under suspicious circumstances behind thick sarkanda and undulating ground near the border during the night and then again in the morning.

As BSF fired a few rounds making them retreat, Pakistani Rangers in the meantime started firing at BSF positions with small arms followed by motor shells. The firing from across the border spread to adjoining Pargwal sector.
A BSF spokesman said, “Pakistani Rangers resorted to firing of small arms and mortar shells on BoPs along IB in Kanachak and Pargwal sectors of Jammu district from 0540 hours”.
They targeted 12 BoPs along IB in these sectors. Five BoPs and hamlets in R S Pura sector were also targeted.
The Pakistani troops had on Sunday night resorted to mortar shelling on forward Indian positions along the Line of Control in Poonch, Rajouri and Pallanwalla areas. However, there were no casualties or damages on the Indian side.
Desperate to push terrorists into the state, Pakistani troops and Rangers have been resorting to unprovoked firing on Indian side off and on. Since July last, there have been over 20 incidents of ceasefire violation in which four people including three jawans were killed and 14 others injured.
