First year students of Sri Krishna College of Technology began their education by paying a fitting tribute to late former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam by planting about 2,000 saplings on their institutions premises on Monday. The planting drive was organised to live up to the leader’s dream of a ‘Green India’.
A total of 1,332 more saplings were planted by the senior students of the college, while about 1,000 saplings were distributed to the parents, who came with the freshers to the institution for the orientation programme, to plant them in their houses. The drive was kick started by chief executive officer and founder of Taalkshop Academy, Chennai, C. Gopinath.
In a motivational session that followed, Mr. Gopinath told students that Kalam believed in youth than in his expertise in science and technology as the pillars and future of the country. “It is the responsibility of students to make his dream come true,” he added. Chairperson and managing trustee of Sri Krishna Institutions S. Malarvizhi presided.
College principal A. Ramesh, principals of other colleges under Sri Krishna Institutions S. Annadurai and Radhika and secretary K. Palaniappan were present.
