Public hearing on power tariff today
NEW DELHI: Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission will be holding a public hearing for tariff fixation on Tuesday and Wednesday. A large number of consumers, activists and RWAs have been preparing for weeks to present their case at the hearing on why there should not be increase in tariff.
Discoms will also attend the hearing to convince the regulator as to why a tariff hike is essential for their healthy functioning.
A large number of AAP MLAs are expected at the hearing.
The first day of the hearing will focus on tariff for BRPL, BYPL, Tata Power Delhi and NDMC, respectively. A lot of heated discussion is expected on Tuesday.
While DERC has already indicated there will be minimal or no increase in tariff, representatives of political parties will also try their hardest to oppose a hike and claim credit if none is announced.
Citing a widening revenue gap of Rs 28,000 crore, Delhi’s three private discoms have sought a hike in tariff. The AAP government is understood to have conveyed to DERC that it’s not in favour of any hike. Two BSES discoms had petitioned DERC for a hike up to 19% while TPDDL demanded an increase of 20%.
