Oman national held for trying to marry minor

A 37-year-old Oman national was arrested from Hyderabad’s Hyderguda locality on Sunday night before he could marry a minor girl based in the city.

Al Balushi Badar Yousuf Said had arrived in Hyderabad on July 18 and was staying at a hotel in Hyderguda. He had contacted several marriage brokers and asked them to find him a young bride. One such matchmaker, Ayesha Sheikh, introduced him to Qayyum Ali, a school bus driver, who has a 17-year-old daughter.

“The Oman national said he would pay them Rs 1 lakh besides marriage expenses,” police said.

On getting information of the marriage plans, Rein Bazar police raided Qayyum’s Yakutpura residence and rescued the minor girl. “We doubt if Said had any intentions of taking the girl with him… We have arrested him,” said Inspector G Ramesh said.
