Congress Legislature Party Leader Sunil Jakhar has slammed the NDA Government for “failing” to check the rising prices of vegetables.
He protested that the prices of onion, known as the poor man’s vegetable, had risen to Rs 50 per kg. On the other hand, Jakhar alleged during Congress rule, the BJP organised protests across the state when onion prices soared to Rs 30 per kg reportedly due to hoarding and untimely rain. He alleged the prices of other vegetables too were being increased by vested interests.
Jakhar said if there was a fall in production, why was export of 12,38,102 tonnes of onion permitted. He also criticised the state government for raising tax on sugar manufactured in other states to benefit some selective politicians. He alleged this move had encouraged the smuggling of sugar from neighbouring states.
Jakhar alleged farmers were not the beneficiaries of price rise, they barely got remunerative price for their produce. He also criticised the government for not taking any steps to stop farmer suicides.
