Congressman Steny H. Hoye has participated in the 25th Anniversary celebration of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act at The Arc of Southern Maryland.

The Arc of Southern Maryland promotes community involvement, independence and personal success for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“I’m always happy to visit The Arc of Southern Maryland to get an update and see firsthand the extraordinary work they do in support of those in our communities living with differing intellectual and developmental abilities. I was proud to join them today to celebrate 25 years since the signing of the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act,” stated Congressman Steny Hoyer.

The ADA has helped bring greater attention and support to the wonderful organizations like The Arc and others that are providing assistance to those with differing abilities and helping ensure their full inclusion and equal dignity.

“The Arc of Southern Maryland was honored that Congressman Hoyer joined us as we celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). We salute Congressman Hoyer's role as the lead sponsor of the ADA bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. This landmark legislation helped level the playing field for individuals with disabilities. As an organization that supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, we look forward to continuing to remove barriers and create opportunities for community inclusion,” said Terry Z. Long, Executive Director of The Arc of Southern Maryland.
