The Israeli carrier reported a jump of some 150% in data usage among pre-paid clients in the last quarter.

Pelephone Communications Ltd. today launched a new line of pre-paid data plans, starting at NIS 39 for 3GB for one month. The mobile operator's announcement continues Pelephone’s push for pre-paid plans which it started last quarter.

Pelephone deputy CEO Asaf Ofer said, “Since we launched the pre-paid cards at the end of April, there has been a massive increase in the category. We have since sold thousands of pre-paid cards, with the rate increasing daily, and there has been an increase of some 10,000 new subscribers compared to the previous quarter.”

He added, "Following the launch, hundreds of stores have joined Pelephone’s efforts to market the pre-paid cards, with an emphasis on the Arab sector, tourists, and foreign workers. “

Pelephone reported a jump of some 150% in data usage among pre-paid clients in the last quarter. As opposed to the traditional sales model for cellular plans, pre-paid cards allow a customer to purchase a set amount of minutes, texts, and/or data for a particular period - usually one month - without making a monthly commitment.

The other pre-paid plan launched on Monday cost NIS 70 for 8GB data usage per month.

Approximately 30% of the bandwidth used by Pelephone’s pre-paid customers was spent on watching videos on YouTube and texting with Whatsapp, while the firm noted its pre-paid customers also used Skype at double the rate of the rest of the population.
