Minister for Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan has said he is concerned at the further postponement of the trial in Egypt of Ibrahim Halawa, 19, who has been in custody for nearly two years.
The trial of Mr Halawa and around 500 others has been rescheduled for early October.
Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Mr Flanagan said he wanted due process to be observed and that he was in contact with the Egyptian authorities on this matter.
He said: "I've has numerous meetings with numerous ministers, in particular Foreign Minister Shoukry, with whom I spoke in advance of the trial last Wednesday."
Minister Flanagan said: "I expressed the concern of the Irish Government, and indeed the concern of the Irish people, as to the welfare and well being and the manner of this trial. "
He said: "I also believe it's important that while he's awaiting trial that his welfare in prison be dealt with in an adequate way and again on behalf of the Irish Government I'm keeping a very close eye on that and I've raised these concerns also."
