Finnair flight AY62 from Hong Kong to Helsinki had to make a layover in the Siberian city of Novosibirsk in Russia this Monday afternoon.The reason was a rerouting of the plane’s flight plan by Chinese air traffic control, which resulted in a need for refuelling on the ground.
Finnair says that the flight will be delayed by some two hours by the change in plans. The inbound flight was meant to land in Helsinki today Monday at 3:10 pm local time.
The company has not commented on the reasons behind the rerouting. Chinese authorities have also changed the routes of flights from other airlines.
A typical reason for an altered route is inclement weather, but Finnair say they are not aware of this being the basis for the rerouting decision that landed passengers in Siberia for a two-hour refuelling.
