The National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) under Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is celebrating the 154th birth anniversary of Acharya P C Ray.

PUNE: The National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) under Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is celebrating the 154th birth anniversary of Acharya P C Ray. On the occasion, a memorial lecture will be held on the subject -- role of chemical sciences in the evolving new clean energy technologies, a statement issued by NCL said.
The lecture will be delivered by R R Sonde, executive vice-president, research, technology and innovation center, Thermax Ltd.
on August 3. The Acharya P C Ray chemistry quiz contest was organized on July 25 for children and wards of staff, besides the students of nearby schools. The theme of the quiz competition was based on the chemistry and industrial contributions of Acharya P C Ray. It was held in two different groups -- Senior (class XI and XII) and Junior (class IX and X).
P C Ray, the originator of chemical research in modern India, is also recognized as the father of the Indian pharmaceutical industry, the statement added. He realized the need of industrialization for the progress of India.
Medical drugs were imported from the foreign countries so he founded a company named ‘The Bengal Chemical and Pharmaceutical Works’ in critical financial condition that became a famous factory as the produced indigenous chemicals were used by many medical practitioners and many students in the laboratories and many doctors too supported this venture.
