Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian has issued a statement on the Latin American Parliament's recognition of the Armenian Genocide. 

The press office of the Armenian Foreign Ministry quotes Nalbandian as saying, "Armenia welcomes the adoption of the resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide by the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino), uniting 23 legislative bodies of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The irreversible process of recognition is underway on state, non-state as well as multilateral levels.

The resolution adopted by the Latin American Parliament on the Centenary of the Armenian Genocide is a message of solidarity and support to the civilized world in the fight against denialism.

The expression of principled position on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by such a reputable international organization is surely a substantial contribution to the prevention of acts of genocide and crimes against humanity."

The Latin American Parliament (Parlatino) approved on Friday July 31 a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide. The Panama-based body was created in 1964 with the Declaration of Lima, and is composed by the National Congresses and Legislative Assemblies of all Iberoamerica.

This new recognition of the crime against humanity perpetrated by the Turkish state, adds to the resolutions adopted by Parliaments in South America this year, as was the case of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile, the Federal Senate of Brazil and the State Legislature of Rio de Janeiro.

The Latin American Parliament (Parlatino), is a regional, permanent organization composed by the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. It is a consultative assembly similar to the early European Parliament.
