Wolverhampton Girls' High School is the best state-funded secondary school in the West Midlands, according to research by a newspaper group.
Trinity Mirror ranked 3,185 state-funded secondary schools in 15 areas for its Real School Guide.
Its research showed eight out of the top 10 performing schools in England and Wales are selective grammar schools.
Nationally, Pate's Grammar School in Cheltenham came top, the group said.
In the West Midlands, King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls was ranked second and King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys third.
Data journalists analysed each school in 25 categories, including GCSEs results, value-added scores, which is the amount a child improves across their time at each school, pupil-teacher ratios and attendance and truancy rates.
