A successful career is not just about earning money but notching up achievements, hockey legend V. Baskaran said.
“Decide on what you are going to do in future. It is important to fix targets in life,” Mr. Baskaran, a two-time Olympian, said while addressing the students of National College on “Sports as a career,” here .
India has been improving in sports because of increasing confidence of sportspersons.
The role played by support staff had been significant, said Mr. Baskaran, who led the Indian hockey team to gold in the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
Career avenues in sports were wide open and lucrative as well. It was imperative to specialise in a chosen field and stay updated, said Mr. Baskaran, a Padma Shri award winner.
He advised the students to disseminate whatever knowledge they gained for accelerating progress. Elaborating on the advantages of taking part in sport, Mr. Baskaran said that it teaches valuable life skills such as discipline and cultivates the mind to treat success and failure alike.
