Nineteen sovereigns of gold jewellery were stolen from the house of R. Ravindranath (30), a farmer of Sirumugai, when the house remained locked from Friday evening to Saturday afternoon. The police said that the farmer’s wife went to her parents’ place for Aadi Festival and Ravindranath went to his farm for work.

On returning home on Saturday, he saw a bracelet, gold belt and necklace missing.

In two other incidents, the Ramanathapuram and Selvapuram police registered cases of gold jewellery thefts. Jewellery was stolen from the house of P. Chandrasekar of Uppilipalayam in his absence on Saturday. A 36-year-old woman was arrested after she was caught red handed while stealing jewellery from the house of R. Kalammal at Shanmugarajapuram.
