Mata Amritanandamayi Math will organise Ganesh Utsav-2015 at Thukalasserry, near Thiruvalla, in Pathanamthitta district, from August 18 to 22.

As part of the festival, a painting contest for schoolchildren was held at Amrita Vidyalaya in Thiruvalla on Sunday.

As many as 120 children from 27 schools in the district participated in the contest held in the lower primary, upper primary, high school, and higher secondary categories, ashram chief Bhavyamrita Chaitanya said.

Artists C.P. Prasannan, Biju Sreemoolam, and P.M. Prasannakumar comprised the judging committee.

She said the Ganesh Utsav in connection with Vinayaka Chaturthi would be organised in association with various temples and Hindu organisations in the district.

A proclamation procession would be held in and around Thiruvalla as a prelude to the festival and the main Ganesha idol would be carried out in a ceremonial procession from the Mahadevar temple at Chengannur to the venue on the ashram premises at Thukalasserry on August 17 afternoon.

The festival would begin at 5 a.m. on August 18 with Ashtadravya Maha Ganapati homam followed by Ganesha Sahasra Naamarchana.

The rituals would continue on August 19, 20, 21 and 22.

The ashram would distribute 1,001 Ganesha idols among various households in and around Thiruvalla as part of the festival.

The Vinayaka Chathurthi would be celebrated on August 18.

The ceremonial procession carrying Ganesha idols for immersion at the Ashram ghats, marking the culmination of the festival, will be held on August 22 afternoon. An Annadanam would also be held.
