He was killed in a clash with terrorists

The alleged official indifference towards extending solace to the bereaved of family of Central Reserve Police Force personnel S. Sahadevan of Thengamam, near Adoor, who died in an encounter with terrorists 16 years ago has drawn flak from different quarters.

The CRPF jawan, Sahadevan, was killed during a 14-hour encounter with terrorists at Baramulla, near Srinagar, on February 19, 1999. The President also later honoured him with Gallantry Medal postumously.

Negative stand

And now, the State Sainik Welfare Board (SWB) has taken a “negative” stand towards providing employment to Abhidev, son of Sahadevan, raising one or the other objection, alleged the family members.

The family members said the Union Ministry of Defence has intimated the SWB in all States that the dependents of those CRPF personnel killed in encounters, too, were eligible for various benefits, including die-in harness employment, in the State.

Yet to comply

However, the State officials were yet to comply with this Central direction for reasons best known to the authorities concerned, alleged the family members of the jawan.
