Dindi project: villagers ask for best compensation package

Villagers being displaced under Dindi Lift Irrigation Project at Cherlagudem village in Marriguda mandal appealed to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to keep his promise of compensation package to them.

Mr. Rao laid foundation stone for the project on June 12 here and announced the best compensation package for the displaced. Cherlagudem, Narsireddy Gudem, Velugupally, Velugupally tanda, and parts of Kudabakshpally villages would submerge under the project.

As many as 6,700 acres belonging to farmers from these villages along with the farm land in Sivannagudem and Ramireddypalli villages would also be submerged. As over 1,000 families are to be affected by the project, the villagers gathered at Cherlagudem to discuss the compensation package on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, farmer Pasham Ramachandra Reddy said they were ready to give up their land for the project, but the government must pay five times the market value of land, besides providing employment to two persons from each affected family. He urged the Chief Minister to pay compensation to the landless poor, people cultivating government lands and pucca houses to all the displaced. Munugode MLA Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy also interacted with the farmers. The farmers urged the MLA to take their issues to the notice of the State government. Locals Kanchukatla Subhash, M. Narsi Reddy, Maddi Venkat reddy, Nerlakanti Ramalingam, Ithagoni Venkataiah, M. Yadaiah, Palle Ravindar and others were present.
