The narrow exit of the city bus stop in the Salem Railway Junction campus is proving a traffic bottleneck, despite the bus stop itself proving a spacious one.

The city bus stop at the Salem Junction premises provides a look of a mini bus stand, with two separate platforms and adequate shelter to protect the commuters from sun and rain.

The city buses from here proceed to Old Bus Stand (via Five Roads, New Bus Stand, Collectorate); to Hasthampatti (via Five Roads, Saradha College Road), Shevvapet (via Three Roads); Omalur etc round-the-clock. With buses available to the old city every now and then, this bus stand is being used by a large number of people.

While the entry to this bus stop at the Suramangalam Head Post Office is wider enough, the exit near the main entrance of the junction is posing lot of hardship to the crew, the travelling public and the other road users.

The buses proceeding to Old Bus Stand, Hasthampatti etc have to take a ‘U’ turn to come out of the bus stop and proceed on the Khader Khan Road (opposite the junction).

This road is already a narrow one and could not stand to the heavy volume of traffic. When the city buses come out of the junction bus stop, virtually it leads to chaotic traffic condition on both sides. Till the buses take a full ‘U’ turn on the Khader Khan Road, the vehicles line up on both sides. Since the city buses come out of the junction bus stop every two minutes, the other vehicle users have to undergo the ordeal of patiently waiting on the road. Even the presence of police at this point renders no help in regulating the traffic.

The junction auto stand is situated adjacent to the city bus stand. The autos, too, have to come out after taking the people arriving by the trains only by this exit.

The city police, transport and railway department authorities should jointly try to find a solution for this long-pending issue, says K. Bramma, a college student. He also finds fault with the authorities for the poor condition of the Khader Khan Road.
