The breach at 14{+t}{+h}shutter of Lower Mettur Barrage Power House at Chekkanur village, near Mettur, was rectified on Sunday and water was being stored in the barrage for power generation.
The barrage with 18 shutters and built in the downstream of Mettur was commissioned in 1998 to generate 30 MW.
Maintenance work was carried in June this year.
However, the third shutter broke away on June 25 leading to stored water gushing out of the barrage. Since 6,000 cusecs of water was being released from Stanley Reservoir at Mettur, water was stored to the maximum and power generation was in progress.
However, breach was reported in 14{+t}{+h}shutter on Saturday and water gushed out in the river.
It is said that due to the breach, the water level increased suddenly and a two-wheeler was washed away. Fishermen, who were at work, however rushed to the river bed. Since the water discharge from Mettur was high, repair works could not be done immediately and the discharge was stopped temporarily on Saturday evening.
After the barrage was emptied, repair works were carried out and a shutter was installed. Water discharge again began on Sunday.
